One of the most frequent questions I get asked is “What should I WEAR to my shoot??”

Well, let me help you with that!!

Below are some ideas including some brands and stores to get the best outfits for you and your fellow photo subjects for your upcoming shoot!

See above some great examples of things to wear to any kind of shoot for women. We LOVE jeans, white, black, neutrals, sweaters, leggings and lots of other styles. Keep it simple. T-shirts actually go great with long skirts or jeans - do a french tuck (thanks Tan from Queer Eye!). Wear simple but cute sweaters with leggings and Vans. You can keep it as casual or be as formal as you want!

Family Shoots

Probably the most frequently asked question after booking a family shoot with me is “What should we wear??” and it’s a good question!

For any family shoot, your best bet for the most cohesive look is always neutral colors. Blacks, browns, beiges, whites, grays, etc.! Keep in mind your photo location. If it’s beachy, keep to blues and greens and purples. If it’s woodsy, keep to earthy browns and greens and even burgundy!

Think of the season as well. For example, autumn in New England will require (yes I said REQUIRE) the oranges and reds and yellows of the environment.

Try to avoid logos on T-shirts, more than one pattern (gets very busy-looking), and colors on the opposite side of the color wheel.

DON’T make it complicated with very little ones - sundresses, jeans, sweaters are a GODSEND.

(Say it with me) DO bring more than one outfit if your child is under 5 years old. We may not use it, but you’ll thank me if you need to! They get messy…

Engagement / Couple Shoots

Just the two of you? So much fun! Whether you’re in the studio or outside, the guidelines are the same - pay attention to your environment and play on it! Where is your location? Woods? Beach? City? Keep to those colors and styles!

In the woods keep to earthy colors (greens, browns, etc.) and keep to loose, comfortable, and flowy clothing. Dresses, sweaters, button-ups untucked, jeans.

In the city make it a little more clean-cut and straight lines! Blazers and sport coats or peacoats, pencil skirts and boots or heels! Keep to cooler corporate colors - blacks and whites, blues and grays!

I always recommend doing two very different outfits. There is always a space to change - coffee shop bathrooms and cars! Do a casual outfit and a formal one! Glasses and no glasses, hair up and hair down. Mix it up and make the most of this little life event!

Senior Photos

This one is pretty easy. Bring your cap and gown for sure!

This is another one where you should do a casual and a formal look!

Wear some jeans and a good top, a button-up or blouse, and then a dress or blouse and skirt (if that’s your style) for under the cap and gown. Or dress pants and a wrinkle-free button-up or sweater for under the cap and gown! Always wear good shoes as well! Feel free to bring a confetti popper (high school) or a bottle of champagne, prosecco (college or grad school), or sparkling cider to pop and spray! Who doesn’t love props?
